Morning Tour of Tournus

Home of Abbey of St. Philibert

sunny 24 °C

Our 7 day river cruise commenced late afternoon on 5th July when we boarded the riverboat at Chalon-sur-Saone. Settled into our well equiped cabin, explored the riverboat, had a shot rest and joined approximately 120 passengers in the dining room for an excellent dinner with drinks. An early night around 9:30 pm. We woke the next morning in Tournus, our river ship had cruised through the night.

What a beautiful morning to go fishing. So nice to see a gentleman enjoying himself on the river.

Options for today are an included morning guided tour of Tournus, return to the ship for lunch. After lunch there was an optional tour to a wine cellar. We chose to remain on board as we had previously visited many wine cellars.

Our group guided walking tour commenced and we pass some beautiful homes during our 10 minute walk to the town centre.

Every Town has a Town Hall, being the centre of local government within the town.

BNP Paribas - Impressive Bank Building

As one would expect, this bank building is impressive. I like the old buildings, they have character and style, much better than modern high rise building with to much glass.

Cinema la Palette - 37 Rue de la Republique. What a beautiful building, a pity we could not go inside.

Plaque Above L'Etape Gourmande Entrance. Unsure what the plaque states, however I guess it dates the building back to the 17th century.

Pont Henri Gautheron. Abeautiful part of the town. I walked up to the bridge but went no further as I was worried we were walking away from the historic section of the town.

Florist

I was impressed with the Florist Retailers throughout France - magnificent presentation of their flowers and plants. As a member of an Orchid Society for over 30 years I love to view all flowers. Nature is magnificent!

Abbaye Saint - Philbert de Tournus - Rue Albert Thibaudet

The Abbey is considered the main historic attraction. We most probably spent an hour within the Abbey, so much to see and admire. Should this be the type of building you appreciate, then I suggest you allocate more time.
